Changing your profile during active work

Identity, photo, and payout changes are restricted while work is live — and identity changes need re-verification.

For ExpertsUpdated 2026-07-30

Approved experts have guardrails around identity-related changes. The purpose is narrow and worth stating plainly: a client must be able to rely on the verified person they hired being the person doing the work, and on the payout destination not moving while their money is in escrow.

What is restricted, and when

ChangeWith active workWith no active work
Name or emailBlockedAllowed — pauses expert status pending review
Profile pictureBlockedAllowed — pauses expert status pending review
Re-point payout accountBlockedAllowed
AvailabilityAllowedAllowed
Hourly rateAllowedAllowed
Skills and certificationsAllowedAllowed
Service contentAllowedAllowed — may re-enter review
“Active work” means an active contract, a live project, money held in escrow, or a job in progress. The restrictions lift when that finishes or closes.

Why an identity change pauses expert status

Changing your name, email, or photo — even with no active work — puts your account back in front of a reviewer and pauses expert features until they approve. It is the same check that let you in, applied to the thing that changed. Plan around it: do not change your display name the week you expect to submit a proposal.

The things you actually tune often — availability, rate, skills, your services — are deliberately not restricted. Only identity and payout destination are.
